This is the continuation of the examination of the winning design firms from around the country according to Print magazine. For each region, the information presented will help you pick out the best of the best from your state and area.
The Regional Design annual, produced by Print magazine, is an extensive collection of the best design work from around the country. Breaking the U.S. down into 6 subsections, The Far West, Midwest, South West, South, East, and New York City, the magazine selects the work of the best design firms in each region. Print has been accepting entries for the 2009 Regional Design Annual for the past few weeks.
The information presented comes from the 2008 Regional Design Annual and ranks firms by the number of winning designs in the magazine and overall presence in their region. You can judge the firms on the quality of their work by reviewing the individual sites of each. Keep an eye out for the rest of the regions of the U.S. to be covered to better inform your choice of the top design firm and who you should set your sites on.
The Southwest now comes into view. Unlike the Far West and the Midwest, the Southwest isn’t feeling the crunch of the economy on it’s design practices. Ties to Big Oil in the region have kept the community alive through high gas prices and economic recession. The Southwest also departs from the norm in terms of the “green” trend among firms this year. Firms are having to do more to educate clients about sustainable design and processes. While there are strongholds a folk culture in the design of the region, there is a visible shift towards the uncluttered design approach more and more popular today.
