I was commissioned by Yarmouth Arts to create an invitation mailer to invite the public to a talk by the local artist Jeff Kellar. Jeff was the artist in residence at the high school and was in the process of creating a sculpture in the lobby of the building. He was working with one of the art classes in the school. This event was meant to introduce the artist to the larger Yarmouth community and to give an opportunity for Jeff to explain his concept and his previous work.

Jeff Kellar is a Maine artist who has exhibited national and focuses on traditional painting as well as highly modern and conceptual sculpture. He was one of many artists interviewed for the artist in residency program at Yarmouth and was selected because of his wonderful sculptural pieces as well as his attitude towards interactions and participation with students.

I was to create an eye catching mailer that could also function as a poster for the event. The information had to be readable and presented in an interesting way at two sizes. The green shape featured was a detail shot from one of his scultpures exhibited nationally. The photo at the bottom was a rendering of the proposed sculpture for the high school lobby.

I represented the two separate events that evening on the poster one of which being the dedication of the sculpture entitled “Drawing In The Margins.” The Evening With The Artist is a re-occurring event so I tried to suggest a way to standardize the invitations and the posters for events to come. After the poster and mailer were approved they were printed and sent out to the Yarmouth Art’s mailing list and the surrounding community.
